CRICKET HOME TEAM LOSES TO OTAUTAU The first round of the CentralWestern competition was begun recently. In a match at Wairio Otautau easily defeated the home team. At the annual meeting of the Excelsior (Wairio) Cricket Club, Mr A. W. Sherman presided over a fair attendance. ' The balance-sheet showed that the club began the season with a credit of 18/6 and at the close of the season there was a credit balance of £6 7/3.
The president said that the club was to be congratulated on its financial position and that a very enjoyable season had been experienced. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Forde; official umpire, Mr M. Forde. EUCHRE The hall committee’s weekly euchre tournament was well attended. The prize-winners were Mrs J. Nisbet and Mr J Gunn. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs M. Forde and Mr M. Forde. CHILDREN’S PARTY The committee of the combined Ohai Railway Board and the Government railways gave a party to Wairio children recently. The great success attending the annual ball prompts the committee to extend this function to the children and an enjoyable time was spent in games and children’s dances.
