ATHLETICS

EMPIRE GAMES TRIAL MARATHON RACE (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, October 17. The Empire Games trial marathon race conducted by the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held at Mosgiel in perfect weather yesterday afternoon and resulted in a brilliant win for G. L. Austin, whose time of 2.52.19 2-5 must establish a strong claim for his selection in the New Zealand Empire Games team. There were six starters, L. R. McMillan being the only other runner to finish the course of 26 miles and 385 yards. His time was 3.12.51.
