BIRCHGROVE STUD
WEATHERVANE’S PROGENY Mr J. Burnett and his youngest son Mr A. T. Burnett, who have established the Birchgrove Stud at Queenstown, are keen followers of the Birchwood hounds, and it is the ambition of Mr A. T. Burnett to breed and ride the winner of the Duke of Gloucester Cup. Henry Dawson and Delvane, by Weathervane-Lady Blissful, have been raced from this stud and the unnamed Weathervane-Gold Silk gelding in T. E. Pankhurst’s team was bred there. A two-year-old full sister to the gelding has been broken in and is being hacked about preparatory to being put into training in the autumn to fulfil engagements in next season’s Oaks Stakes. She has been named Scotch Queen. The remaining youngsters at the stud are as follows: A two-year-old gelding by Weathervane-Star of Wakatipu; a two-year-old colt by WeathervaneLapwing, by Songbird-Camilau; a colt by Paper Money-Royal Silk; a filly by Paper Money-Gold Silk; a filly by Paper Money-Star of Wakatipu. The three Paper Moneys are all yearlings. Foalings in the present season are a filly from Gold Silk, by Paper Money, and Lapwing, a filly to Paper Money. Lady Blissful has yet to foal. Royal Silk, Star of Wakatipu and Lady Blissful visit Paper Money again this season. The Paper Money-Gold Silk filly has been entered for the national yearling sales at Trentham.
