DELAY IN STRENGTHENING DEPLORED LONDON, October 15. Lord Essendon at the P. and O. Line centenary dinner deplored the delay in strengthening the New Zealand-Aus-tralian-Canadian service against “synthetic” competition. He said he realized that the Dominion Governments had to be consulted, but it was a thousand pities action had not been taken two years ago. Not only would the ships have been running, but they would have been built at half the present cost.
