BLUFF

THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BIBLE CLASS CONCERT A large audience was present in Willard Hall for a concert given by the Presbyterian senior Bible class. An address on mission work was delivered by the chairman (the Rev. T. A. Speer) and at the conclusion of the concert Mr J. W. Lopdell thanked all who had given assistance in any way. Accompaniments were played by Mrs. J. Walker and Misses M. McKenzie and E. Lopdell. The programme was as follows:—Tap dance duos and solos, Gladys McLean and Gwen Bradshaw; Highland fling, Peter Anderson; piano solos, John Mutch; piano duets, Miss M. McKenzie and Mrs J. Walker; piano-accordion and piano duet, Axel Boberg and John Mutch; cornet and piano-accordion duets, Ray Hawke and Jock Walker; songs and recitations, Winifred McKenzie and Noeline McKenzie; play, “Doctor’s Orders,” Evelyn Cameron, Laura Lopdell, Shirley Downes, John Mutch and Jock Walker; song scenas, “Riding Down to Bangor,” Bible Class (duettists, Cecil Walker and Mackie Beaton) and “So-long to you,” Bible Class (Mackie Beaton, soloist); club-swinging, Laura Lopdell; solo, Miss C. Batcheler; songs, “Silent Night” and “Swing Low. Sweet Chariot,” Bible Class. Brisk business was done at sweets, cake and soft drinks stalls, at which those in charge were: Winnie Driscoll, Vera Calder and Myra Lowe. THE WEATHER Sunshine has been plentiful at the port recently, yesterday being a particularly beautiful day. Women bowlers have taken advantage of the good weather to get in practice and have found the green in excellent order. Gardens are coming on well and with the rich soil for which Bluff is noted there is every sign of satisfactory vegetable crops this season. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs M. Roderique and family, of Papatotara, who have been the guests recently of Mr and Mrs H. Roderique, Ann street, Bluff, are leaving for Nelson where they will reside in future. They will be accompanied by Mr S. G. Roderique, of Bluff. Messrs Webster and Thomas (Wellington), Miss Cottrell (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs Webb and Mr Stewart (Dunedin) have been guests at the Club Hotel, Bluff, during the week. FLAG 500 Winners at the Women’s Bowling Club’s latest flag 500 weekly touma ment were: Mr and Mrs L. Mortimer and Mr A. Nightingale. Consolation prizes went to Mesdames A. Plank and Conaghan and Mr T. Connell.
