JUDGING BY YOUNG FARMERS

AN AMBITIOUS PROPOSAL The Young Farmers’ Clubs of the Dominion have before them an ambitious project, which they hope to carry through this summer—a great judging contest. This proposal is that each club throughout the Dominion should donate £6 to the central executive to finance the whole undertaking. At the royal show, to be held in Palmerston North in November, there would be gathered competitors from clubs all over New Zealand. They would be provided with their expenses for a two-day stay. Judging would be divided into four classes, sheep, dairy stock, fat stock and horses. It is hoped to have an entrant from every club. The four winners of this contest of elimination, one from each class, would be given a trip to the Sydney Royal Show, to be held at Easter 1938. There they would compete with Australian Young Farmers. A team of sixteen Australians is at present at Home competing with British Young Farmers. British teams have partaken in competition on the Continent, with German, Danish, and Dutch Young Farmers. The movement is thus seen to have attained an international significance. That New Zealand should come into line is a desirable ambition. The growing strength of the movement •la all provinces, and the keenness of its members, augurs well for the future of our farming.
