The Exchequer returns show that the total ordinary revenue amounts to £277,480,323 compared with £265,944,769 at the corresponding date last year. Income tax, surtax, estate duties, Customs and excise all show substantially higher yields. The total expenditure, less selfbalancing items, is £364,604,495 compared with £346,639,000 at the corresponding date in 1936. The floating debt outstanding at £898,735,000 shows a net increase of £200,605,000 since the beginning of the financial year and compares with £843,815,009 this time last year.
