THE WEATHER FAIR TO FINE

WELLINGTON, September 16. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland as issued by the Meteorological Office Wellington:— Light to moderate and variable winds, with northerlies soon prevailing and later freshening. Weather fair to fine and milder. Seas slight to moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for the most part fair to fine, but cloudy, and with further scattered showers. Frost tonight, but milder tomorrow. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone covers the Eastern Tasman Sea and New Zealand with its highest pressure over the South Island. A depression is located over South-Eastern Australia and is moving on to the south-west of the Tasman Sea. Winds.—Southerly, strong at' places between Cook Strait and East Cape, but decreasing, and otherwise light to moderate, later changing to easterly over the northern portion of the North Island and to northerly over the southern half of the South. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough between Kaikoura and East Cape and rather rough north of Farewell Spit, but gradually decreasing, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate south-east to easterly winds, later backing to northerlies and freshening in the southern portion. Seas slight to moderate.
