Mrs W. A. Oliver, Hollywood Terrace, was hostess at tea in the Tudor Lounge yesterday afternoon for her daughter, Miss Ellen Oliver, of Christchurch.

The Oteramika Football Club held a victory ball in the Oteramika hall recently. There was a big attendance, and the Gaiety dance band played the music. Mr J. Burke was master of ceremonies.

The Waimatua Football Club, the youngest club in the Southern district, held a successful dance in the Waima-

tua school. The Star dance band supplied the music, and Mr C. Montague was master of ceremonies.

On a recent evening a surprise party visited the new home of Mr and Mrs Hugh Baird, of Oreti. The evening was spent in music, games and singing, and items were given by Mrs Woods, Mr J. Fletcher and Mr Wallis. Mr A. Whyte, on behalf of those present, thanked Mr and Mrs Baird for their hospitality and wished them many happy days in their new home. Those present were Mr and Mrs H. Mr and Mrs Campbell, of Dunedin, have returned home from a visit to Mr and Mrs D. Hunter, Alma street, Wyndham. Miss Robinson, Dunedin, has returned home after a short holiday with her sister, Mrs C. E. Davey, Scutari street Mr and Mrs Jory, Dunedin, were the guests of Mr and Mrs Spence W. Peacock, Crimea street, Wyndham, last week. The members of the women’s committee of the Wyndham and District St. Andrew’s Scottish Society paid a surprise visit to Mr and Mrs A. A. Wilson, Ferry street. The purpose was to make a small presentation to Mrs Wilson in recognition of her kindness to the women, who held weekly practices at her house while preparing for their annual concert. The evening was passed with games, and Mrs John Young, on behalf of those present, asked Mrs Wilson to accept a crystal vase and a crystal jelly dish, .and expressed the members appreciation of her kindness. Other speakers added supporting remarks, and Mrs Wilson replied.

OLD-TIME BALL

happy function in QUEENSTOWN There was a big attendance at the old-time ball held in the Garrison Hall in Queenstown recently. The hall was decorated with greenery. The Cromwell orchestra supplied the music, and Messrs Ritchie (Arrowtown) and J. McLean were masters of ceremonies. Mr A. Mitchell played an extra, and the grand march was led by Mrs D. H. PRESENTATIONS AND DANCE A public farewell function was given Miss I. Aitken, Wairio, who has been on the staff of the Ohai Railway Board for llj years, and who is to be married shortly. Mr J. A. WEDDINGS

BISHOP-McKAY The wedding was recently solemnized at St. Paul’s Church, Dee street, of Doris Henepau, youngest daughter of Mrs B. McKay, of Ettrick street, and the late Mr B. McKay, of Mossburn, to Stanley Alan, youngest son of Mr and Mrs G. S. Bishop, Victoria avenue. The bride entered the church with her brother, Mr John McKay, wearing an ankle length model frock of cream lace over cream satin, ending in a slight train. The bodice was cut on princess lines, the square neck being finished with two sprays of orange blossom with a high Medici collar at the back. Her veil of cream needlerun net was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom and appliqued with flowers. She carried a bouquet of arum lilies and freesias.

Miss Barbara McKay, Dunedin, sister of the bride, was chief bridesmaid, and Miss Doris Wilson, niece of the bride, was second bridesmaid. They were dressed alike in shell pink georgette. The former’s frock was embroidered with baskets of flowers, and it had a short bolero. The latter’s frock was caught at the throat with a blue flowered spray, and it too had a short bolero coatee. Both wore caps of silver lame and carried bouquets of cream and pink single roses. Mr Robert Ferguson was best man, and Mr Andrew Anderson was groomsman.

Tire reception was held at the Country Club, where Mrs McKay, assisted by Mrs Bishop, received the guests. Mrs McKay wore a frock of matalasse repp, relieved at the throat with beige coloured lace, under a black furtrimmed velour coat. She carried a bouquet of yellow narcissi. The bridegroom’s mother wore a pin spotted frock of navy blue marocain under a shaped coat of navy repp. She carried a bouquet of red winter roses. Mrs A. McKay, Riverton, presented the bride with her three-tiered cream and pink wedding cake. For travelling the bride wore a navy costume, and carried a brown fur stole. Her hat was of navy blue straw and was trimmed with a small eye veil. Mr and Mrs S. A. Bishop will live in Ettrick street. BONE-MATHIESON The wedding was solemnized at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Invercargill, on September 8 of Christina Frances, daughter of Mrs Mathieson, Heddon Bush, and the late Mr George Mathieson, to Andrew T., son of Mr and Mrs G. H. Bone, Otautau. The officiating minister was the Rev. Dim, Oreti, and the organist was Mr Armstrong. The bride entered the church with her brother, Mr J*. Mathieson, wearing a full-length moulded frock of azure blue tree-bark silk marocain, trimmed with tiny buttons and finished at the neckline by a ruffle of lace. She wore a small toque of fawn pedal cloth with blue flowers and stiffened net trimming, and carried a bouquet of spring flowers and maidenhair fem. Miss Jean Mathieson attended her sister wearing a long slim-fitting frock of floral sandrumin crepe finished at the neckline with pleated georgette. Her hat was a Coronation gold pedaline breton, and her bouquet was of spring flowers to match.

Rae Mathieson, niece of the bride, attended as flower girl. She was dressed in frilled lemon organdie, with tiny pink and blue rosebuds on the frock and halo headband. She carried a small posy of flowers. Mr W. Campbell, Otautau, was best man. After the ceremony the guests adjourned to the Tudor Lounge, and were received by the bride’s mother, Mrs Mathieson, who wore a navy frock relieved with white, a tailored coat, a navy Jack Tar straw hat and a shoulder spray of violets. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, Mrs Bone, who wore a brown frock and tailored coat with a brown straw hat with orange trimmings, and a shouldei spray to match. The three-tiered wedding cake was made by the bridegroom’s mother.

For travelling the bride wore a navy and white American model frock under a tailored coat, and her navy Queen of Scots hat had blue petal trimming and a net veil. Her accessories were to match. . Before their marriage the bride and bridegroom were the guests of fhe members of the Bayswater Tennis Club at an evening, and were also given a sift evening by the residents of Heddon Bush. . Mr and Mrs A. T. Bone will live at Wyndham.
