Auld, Mataura, and her son are spending a holiday in Christchurch. Miss M. Gaudion, Dunedin, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr and Mrs T. Gaudion, Oakland street. Mataura. Dr Elizabeth Gunn, acting Director of School Hygiene, Health Department, Wellington, visited' Christchurch to attend the New Education Fellowship Conference held there last week. At the conference of the Plunket Society in Dunedin last week Mrs R. M. Strang, president of the Invercargill branch, was elected to the Dominion Council. Miss R. E. Helm, who has been transferred to the Stamps Department, Wellington, left Invercargill by the express last evening. A number of friends and members of the Invercargill Operatic Society were present at the railway station to bid her farewell. Miss Helm will shortly return to Invercargill to assist in the presentation by the Operatic Society of “Rio Rita.”

Mrs H. MacDonald gave a surprise evening at her home in Forth street Mataura, in honour of Miss Neen McKerrow, who is leaving Mataura to live in Invercargill. The evening was spent in musical items, games and competitions. Mr MacDonald asked Miss Mc-

Kerrow to accept a clock as a mark of the esteem in which she was held by those present. Miss McKerrow replied. Among those present were Mesdames H. MacDonald, J. Wallace, C. D. Taylor, F. Bryant, A. Gourley, A. A. Wright; Misses N. McKerrow, A. Reid, F. Henry, P. Calder, H. Kingston; Messrs J. Finlay, J. Wallace, H. MacDonald, W. Martin and D. Smith.
