The German was more aggressive ana increased his severity in the second set; his only uncertainty was his backhand. The German’s relentlessness increased his mastery, and he outwitted Grant and swept to victory. _ Budge and Henkel opened with a long-range duel. Budge was the definite master of his strokes whereas foot-faulting unsteadied the German. Budge’s stroke supremacy was always manifest except against Henkel s occasional lightning aces. Henkel’s best patch was in the third set, but he lacked consistency in length. His smashing was an antidote to Budge’s tantalizing lobs. WOMEN’S HOCKEY TRIAL MATCHES CONTINUED Women’s hockey trial games were continued at Queen’s Park on Saturday. Conditions were good, the. drying winds of the past week making the ground fit to play on—a big improvement on what it had been the previous week. Three of the teams were short and this did not help to improve the games. In the match between the C and D teams there was no positional play, but the game between the A and B teams was nearly up to representative standard, several bright incidents being provided in each half.
