WOMEN’S DIVISION CONFERENCE
REMITS ON MANY QUESTIONS CARRIED

The conference of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union finishec at Wellington today. Mrs Hebbard (Taihape) and Mrs Polson (Wanganui) were re-elected to the Advisory Bush Nurse Housekeeper Auxiliary. Other officers elected were:—Finance Committee, Mesdames Mathieson, McNeil and Preshaw (all of Wellington), and Hawthorn (Upper Hutt); Pan-Pacific, Mrs Jackson; war relief, Mrs Lundius; Red Cross, Mrs Angus; Co-ordinating Committee, Mesdames Drake, Barrer, Noel and Adams. Among the remits carried were those supporting an immigration scheme; a request to the Government to expand the scheme of interest-free money allowing farmers to build houses for farm workers; that the basic wage be made more equitable by providing for a man and his wife, adding thereafter an allowance for each child; urging the Government to make an effort to reduce overhead costs in distribution with the cities; that where a woman is a bread-winner she have the same right as a man in sharing any advantages of legislation; advocating a stricter supervision of selling liquor; desiring legislation for training for employment suitable women as police officers, and urging that nurses hours of work be modified to permit of more study. ______
