PROPOSED NEW PROVINCE

NORTH AUCKLAND DISTRICT WHANGAREI, June 17. A unanimous decision favouring provincial status for North Auckland was reached at the annual conference of the North Auckland Chambers of Commerce at Kawakawa yesterday. The proposed boundaries of the territory are the southern extremities of the Rodney county. With a view to attaining the desired end representatives of each chamber pledged themselves to place the facts before the local bodies of their districts and seek support of the proposal. The chambers, also, will bring before members within three months a suitable name for the proposed new province. The move originated at the fast conference of the associated chambers held in Kaitaia and since then meetings have been held in various centres to discuss the project.
