INVERCARGILL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS Successes in the four-rink championship, the Mayor’s pairs and several tournaments placed the Invercargill Bowling Club in a leading position among the Southland clubs last season. At the annual meeting of the club congratulations upon its achievements on the green were received. The president (Mr J. Richards) presided over an attendance of 36 members. The annual report stated that the membership stood at 48 active, two honorary, two social, 11 women and four life members, making a total of o7> compared with 68 the previous season. The green gave the committee much concern, but it was hoped that the methods adopted in green preparation for the incoming season would have a beneficial result. During the year the petrol mower caught fire and repairs costing £4 15/- were necessary. The committee had, under consideration the purchase of a new mower. The club competitions were well filled and keenly contested and resulted as follows:— Championship singles, Mr H. L. Hay; championship doubles, Messrs E. Hewitt and R. H. Osten. In accordance with the decision arrived at at the last annual meeting, a rinks tournament was started lor the purpose of finding the shield rink. This was won by a rink skipped by Mr W. Millar The rink was defeated in its first two games by Gore and Hokonui, these rinks eventually being winner and runner-up. The Jenkins medals were competed for on six occasions, which was a vast improvement on last season, when they were competed for on only one occasion. The present holders were Dixon and Jones. “It is very pleasing to report a very successful season in the inter-club and centre competitions, the club having won the four-rink championship, and Hewitt and Osten, Hay and Carman winning the Mayoris pairs,” the report continued. “In the final game of this competition Mr R. Holmes was substituted for Mr Carman. The following rinks were successful in the various tournaments: —North End, Labour Day, Jones, Thomson, Geddes and Hay. R.S.A., Boxing Day, Jones, Stirrat, Munnings and Millar. A rink skipped by F. G. Stevenson was successful in winning the Murihiku Cup. It staved off three challenges, finally losing to the Woodlands Club. Congratulations are extended to Holmes, Hay and Hunter in gaining provincial honours. Country Trips Restricted “Because of the» unsettled weather the inter-club competitions were considerably delayed with the result that members were deprived of a number of country trips. Last year six country clubs were visited. This year, however, it was only possible to visit Winton and Riverton, when very enjoyable games wefe played. The committee desires to express its thanks to the Social Committee which again successfully carried out its duties during the winter months. Thanks are also due to those members who frequented the billiard room and thus materially assisted the finances of the club.” The report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion. The election of office-bearers for the new season resulted as follows:—President, Mr C. C. Munnings; vice-president, Mr J. H. Tattersfield; secretary, Mr E. J. Jones; treasurer, Mr T. Monson; auditor, Mr W. J. Miller; committee, Messrs A. Derbie, T. Gilbertson, R. R. Hunter, E. J. Mills, A. Parfitt and H. Semmens; delegates to the Southland Bowling Centre, Messrs R. R. Hunter and A. Derbie; selectors, Messrs A. Parfitt and H. Semmens; social committee, Messrs O. Grant, W. J. Miller, E. J. Mills, T. Monson and T. Robertson. It was decided to make a levy of 6d a player to defray the cost of afternoon tea each Saturday, irrespective of the green played on. The selection of the rink to represent the club in the shield rink championship was discussed, and it was decided that the selectors be asked to choose four skips. The skips will select their rinks and a competition on the two life system played to find the winning rink. Trophies were presented as follows: — Champion singles, Mr H. L.
