TIME LIMIT FOR APOLOGY
PUBLISHERS OF BOOK ABOUT DUKE (Received April 25, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 23. “Unless William Heinemann Limited by the first post on Monday agrees to the request that it withdraws ‘Coronation Commentary,’ by Geoffrey Dennis, and publish a suitable apology to the Duke of Windsor, writs will be issued immediately, because we are satisfied that the book libelled his Royal Highness,” said the Duke of Windsors secretary (Mr A. G. Allen), in an interview with The Daily Mail. While William Heinemann Limited is conferring with its legal advisers, the sales of the book are leaping. Mr Allen told the Press Association that if the “Coronation Commentary was ■ not withdrawn and an apology published action will certainly follow. The publishers admit that they have received a demand. They say the matter is too delicate for them to make any statement. Mr Dennis, who was for many years attached to the League Secretariat at Geneva, resigned to devote himself to literature. A later message says that Coronation Commentary” has reached its fourth edition and is now out of print. William Heinemann Limited has not yet replied to Mr Allen.
