Waikana DANCE IN AID OF SCHOOL FUNDS
A dance was held in the school re-: cently in aid of a fund for the installation of a wireless set in the school. The music was supplied by Messrs I. Haggitt and R. Dennis. At the supper interval Mr Dennis announced the winners of the various competitions held as follows: —Cake, Mr Peterson (Invercargill); cushion, Mrs Balloch (Mataura); goose, Mr Watt (Mataura); mystery parcel, Mr A. Gillies (Mataura). Due in a large measure to the efforts of Mr R. Dennis the school is in possession of a wireless set, enabling the pupils to listen-in to the educational sessions broadcast over the air. EUCHRE The first of the fortnightly euchre matches held during the winter months took place recently. A number of players was present from Mataura and Ferndale. The winners were Miss Patricia Henderson and Mr R. Dennis. After supper a dance was held to music supplied by Messrs A. Meikle, B. Henderson and H. Shanks. Mr S. Shanks was M.C. FEED PLENTIFUL Feed is very plentiful in the Waikana district and several drafts of fat lambs have gone to the Mataura freezing works. ■
