AWATEA DELAYED AGAIN
PASSENGERS ARRIVE LATE (Special to The Times.) AUCKLAND, April 21. For the second time in succession the Awatea’s departure from Auckland for Sydney was delayed because of the late arrival of passengers. The ship’s gangway was lowered punctually at five o’clock tonight and three passengers, two men and a woman, arrived a few minutes later. By the time they made their way to the edge of the quay the Awatea had swung out some 20 feet from the wharf. Captain Davies saw the incident from the bridge and he immediately manoeuvred his ship alongside again. A small gangway was hoisted through the entrance port and the passengers were taken on board. With her engines full speed astern the Awatea moved quickly away from the wharf. She was only a short distance off when another passenger, a woman, rushed _ down the quay. This time the ship was not stopped. When the Awatea left Auckland for Sydney last Tuesday week a man arrived late and the ship was delayed while he was hauled on board by a block and tackle. In spite of the. delay tonight the Awatea swung quickly in the stream and she rounded North Head at 5.20.
