THE WEATHER MAINLY FAIR

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, April 19. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, as issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Winds between north and west, light to moderate mainly, but freshening at times. Weather mainly fair, but changeable and with scattered passing showers at times, especially in coastal areas. Temperatures cool to moderate. Seas moderate to rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair L. first in most parts, but becoming unsettled soon in the western and southern districts of the South Island, with scattered ram; later rain “developing also over the northern portion of the North Island. Cold night, but milder day temperatures. General Situation.—A series of slight westerly depressions is advancing across the South Tasman Sea, while a shallow depression is also located over the North Tasman. An anti-cyclone covers the greater part of Australia. Winds.— North-easterly to easterly over the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere northerly to northwesterly ; light to moderate generally at first, but freshening, especially in the far north and about and south of Cook Strait. , Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate but freshening northeast to east winds in the northern portion, and moderate to strong northerhes to westerlies in the southern. Seas moderate to rather rough.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and sunny Late in the afternoon a cool breeze blew from the north-west, the evening being cold and bleak. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine and calm.
