AMERICAN MOVE TO CHECK ALIENS

RISK OF OFFENDING CANADA (Received March 18, 7.25 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 17. Ignoring a statement by the Assistant Secretary of State (Mr Wilbur J. Carr) that the action might embarrass America’s good neighbour relations with Canada, the House of Representatives passed the Schulte Bill to restrict the habitual commuting of aliens in American industrial communities on the borders.

Mr W. J. Schultz (Democrat) alleged that 300,000 aliens are commuting every day to take jobs from Americans.

Mr Carr issued a warning that retaliation could be expected. The Bill now goes to Senate.
