Mr Huntly Groves (through his solicitor) lessee of The Islands advised that he had applied to the Railway Department for the erection of a wharf on this property so that the lake steamers might call there when required, irrespective of the weather conditions. The department is considering the application and the Lake County Council has agreed to a grant of £5 towards the cost of erection. Mr Grpves himself is prepared _to provide the necessary timber for piles and decking and asked that the council also make a grant towards the cost. It was decided that the request lie on the table for a month and that the Mayor and Councillor Miller inspect this property during their inspection of borough leaseholds. Aerodrome at Frankton The Lake County Council forwarded a copy of a letter sent to the Undersecretary of the Land and Survey Department about the Frankton aerodrome. The letter suggested that two members of the Lake County Council, the Mayor, and one member of the Queenstown Borough Council. and the Mayor of Arrowtown be appointed the Board of Control. As the local councils were required to find the finance of the Board of Control it would be an added safeguard to have the council members on the board itself. Perhaps another suggestion might be made that the councils in each year in which general local bodies elections are held and after such elections shall in the month of May in that year nominate their representatives on the Board of Control who shall hold office, until the following general elections of coun- 1 cils. The council approved of the letter submitted. Permission was granted the Queenstown Regatta Club' to use the town pier for its regatta on Easter Saturday. They were also granted permission to take up street collections on that day. The Mayor and Councillors Anderson and Gavin were appointed a deputation to wait on the Minister of Railways, (the Hon. D. The following matters are to be placed before the Minister:—lmprovements to goods sheds in Queenstown; the matter of continuing the week-end trips; and the running of the boat to connect with the trains. It was resolved to write to the Minister concerned about the wholesale destruction of rata and other native shrubs growing on the lake side. It was resolved to write to the Post-master-General (the Hon. F. Jones) inquiring when it is intended to start on the new post office. As the general manager of the Tourist Department had indicated that he intended to erect funicular railways to snowfields, it was decided to suggest to him the possibilities of such a railway up Ben Lomond. The Main Highways Board advised that the section of the PalmerstonQueenstown main highway through the borough is now part of the MiltonQueenstown State highway and from November 1, the whole cost of maintenance and reconstruction will be borne by the board.
