BRITAIN’S SUPPLIES OF ELECTRICITY

SCHEME OF DISTRIBUTION (British Official Wireless) (Received March 4, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, March 3. The Government has decided to adopt in principle, subject to certain modifications in detail, the recommendations for the reorganization of electricity supplies made by the Committee on Electricity Distribution, which presented its report in May last year. The committee recommended that the scheme should include provision for a substantial reduction in the number of undertakings—of which there are now 643, operated by 627 separate authorities —and the prevention of the splitting up of comprehensive undertakings. It also recommended that the charges for electricity should be lowered and levelled, and voltages standardized.
