BOXING % PALMER-DE GANS CONTEST On Monday, March 15, the Southland Boxing Association will open its new season with a contest between Ambrose Palmer, the world-famous light-heavyweight, and the popular Roy de Gans. This fight will be particularly interesting as de Gans was imported from America to fight Palmer at Rushcutter’s Bay Stadium, Sydney. He was rushed into the contest after being only a fortnight off the boat and suffered a defeat in seven rounds. De Gans is now at his peak and is confident of putting up a great fight against such a formidable opponent. He realizes that he has everything to gain in this contest, as a decision over Palmer would mean world-wide recognition. Palmer has’been training over four weeks now and is reported to be as good as ever he was. A spell from the ring and a change of climate have improved his health and in this contest the public should see Palmer at his best. During his last visit to Invercargill he suffered an injury to one of his hands and could not produce his best form. Palmer is training at his gymnasium in Don street every evening from 8 o’clock and those interested may visit the gymnasium and see the final work-outs.
