RUGBY FOOTBALL INVERCARGILL CLUB ANNUAL REPORT A successful season last year and prospects for success this year are mentioned in the annual report of the Invercargill Football Club to be presented at the annual meeting on Monday next. The report states:—“The senior fifteen, with the inclusion of new mem-

bers, which considerably strengthened the team, proved a very fine combination, winning the Galbraith Shield and also the Fleming Cup, which is competed for annually between the champion club team in Invercargill and the champion sub-union. The second fifteen showed good form, being runnerup with Bluff in their grade. The third grade team proved a formidable combination and won the third grade competition. The fourths showed up very well and were runners-up with Bluff in their grade. The thirds and fourths are to be congratulated on their performances and the keenness displayed throughout the season. The fifths stuck to their task nobly and did quite well, considering that at times they were handicapped through lack of pmy^ r S. The Royds Cup was won by the third grade team. The R. M. Isaacs Aggregate Cup was retained by the chib- A splendid club spirit and goodfellowship were in evidence during the whole season. • “During the year discussions took place on the question of securing a training ground for the club’s sole use. There was too much congestion at the park and satisfactory training could not be carried out. It is hoped that the club will be successful in its negotiations with the Rugby Union in getting the use of Biggar street and the dressing-shed for the coming season. We wish to thank Messrs G. Millar, G. Palmer, V. Vial, D. Gillespie, P. Lindsay and A. Couling for the effort and time so freely given in coaching the various teams. Congratulations on gaining representative honours are extended to Messrs L. and C. George, J. Purdue, J. Dunstan, S. Purdue and A. Sutherland and the junior representatives, Messrs L. Wilson, J. Millar and A. Roberts. The club’s finances are in a healthy state.”
