RADIO SIGNALS FROM SHIPS

PERFECTION OF PRESENT SYSTEM ' (Received, February 19, 0.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 18. The Federal Communications Commission has disclosed the perfection of the automatic radio SOS signal system used in cargo ships. It is announced that a meeting was held on Friday to discuss its adoption, which is opposed by the Radio Operators’ Union because it would permit the elimination of two of the three watches now kept. The new system transmits an alarm signal which will either ring a bell or operate a light. Any ship can be equipped to receive it.
