AIR RAID DRILL IN PARIS

COMPLETE REHEARSAL (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Paris, October 16. The city was “blacked out” for two hours, when the most comprehensive air raid defence measures held anywhere since the Great War were fully tested. Seventy sirens screamed the warning of an air raid; 2130 lights were extinguished; traffic came to a standstill; people rushed to shelters, and gas mask exercises were carried out; and ambulances appeared, rendering first aid to supposed victims. The planes dropped flares instead of bombs. Eleven people were arrested and charged with distributing pamphlets of protest during the rehearsal. There were 458 prosecutions for violation of the “black out” order.
