CHAMBER OF COMMERCE STAMPS

SPECIAL POST OFFICE. The interest taken in the issue of stamps commemorating the first meeting in New Zealand of the Federated Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire has caused the Post Office to make special arrangements for the firstday postings of correspondence that will no doubt be made on October 1 at the Congress Post Office in Wellington. No official first-cover envelopes are being issued, but collectors may arrange for first-day postings at the special office by forwarding addressed envelopes with remittance and instructions to the Director-General, G.P.0., Wellington (stamps branch) to reach him prior to the end of September. The Congress Post Office will be opened in the Town Hall, Wellington at 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, the date on which the stamps—of id, Id, 2Jd, 4d and 6d denominations —will be first issued and the office date-stamp will indicate the special nature of the occasion by incorporating the wording “Empire Conference, Chambers of Commerce, Wellington, N.Z.” To meet the convenience of the public, the Post Office will accept at the inquiry counter of the Chief Post Office, Wellington, correspondence (except registered correspondence) for forwarding to the Congress Post Office for posting. ___________
