FARM WORKER FOUND SHOT. (United Press Association.) Ashburton, September 17. Eric Francis Norton, farm worker, aged 33, died in hospital as a result of a gunshot wound. He was found early this morning lying in the yard of the farm at Seafield, where he was employed, with a bullet wound in the head. A rifle was beside him. Norton’s widow and two children live at Temuka. BODY FOUND IN LIFT WELL. (United Press Association.) Auckland, September 17. The body of H. F. Churton, aged 63, married, a well-known indent agent of Mount Eden, was found at noon at the bottom of a lift well in Cooke’s building, Queen street, where he occupied an office on the fifth floor. Churton’s hat and attache case were found in the automatic lift, which was on the sixth floor. How he fell into the lift well is a mystery. The lift was tested by experts and the mechanical locking devices on the lift and at each floor were found to be in working order. WORKMAN CAUGHT IN SHAFTING. (United Press Association.) Wellington, September 17. Severe injuries were received by W. Ewen Taylor, labourer, of Petone, when his clothing became caught in the shafting of machinery at Lowe’s foundry, Lower Hutt, this afternoon. Taylor’s right shoulder was dislocated, his left arm fractured and he received abrasions to his face and body. His condition was serious, but is now reported to be satisfactory.
