PLIGHT OF THE JEWS
FAITH IN BRITAIN. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, September 10. The Chief Rabbi (the Very Rev. Joseph Hertz) in a message issued on the occasion of the Jewish New Year says: — “It is a heartbreaking situation that the Old Year is passing on to us. Russia and Germany are not the only lands of agony for contemporary Israel. AntiJewish propaganda is encircling the globe and everywhere poisoning opinion against the Jews. Grave uncertainty, perhaps sheer destruction, faces the Jewries of Austria, Poland, and the Holy Land.” Referring to Palestine Mr Hertz adds: “As loyal citizens of Britain, which is the earth’s nearest realization of might coupled with justice and humanity, we deem her incapable of a breach of faith. As Jews we cling to the Divine promise of Israel’s resurrection in the Holy Land.”
