LANDSLIDES KILL HUNDREDS

Himalayan Villages Wiped Out

BODIES FLOAT DOWN ON RIVER

PEOPLE OVERWHELMED IN SLEEP

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.5 p.m.) London, September 11. The Bombay correspondent of The Daily Telegraph says that hundreds of lives were lost in the great landslides which completely wiped out seven Himalayan villages in Garhwal, in the United Provinces. There were no survivors.

The first inkling of the tragedy came when human bodies, carcasses of animals and wreckage began to drift down from the Himalayas on the floodswollen waters of the Ganges. The landslides apparently occurred at night-time, overwhelming the villagers while they slept.
