REPRESENTATION SOUGHT

REQUEST FROM BREED SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP OF A. AND P. ASSOCIATION A request for representation on the directorate of the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association by the Southland Jersey Breeders’ Club was discussed at yesterday’s meeting of the directors of the association. It was stated by members that Dr A. F. Ritchie Crawford, one of the directors of the association, was a member of the club and was regarded as its representative. There was a resolution in the minutes that a breed society could be given membership only if it had no member already a director. The secretary said that there were only three breed societies—Friesian, Red Poll and Shorthorn—not represented by directors, and their interests were served by associate members. It was decided to advise the club that the position was already covered by a previous resolution and nothing could be done. A recommendation was put forward by Mr A. M. Weir that a class be instituted at the next show for ponies to carry two children. Such ponies were the useful type for children going to school, and classes for them were very popular at North Island shows. The Gore Association had decided to include such a class in its next show schedule. A report on the annual meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society was given by the secretary, Mr A. L. Adamson, who attended it with Mr J. Macdonald. Mi- W. Clark was elected president and Mr W. Falconer vice-president. Both were congratulated on their election, and Mr Clark returned thanks to the directors, the secretary and office staff, the groundsman, and the newspapers for courtes ; es shown him during his term of office. Mr A. M. Weir was congratulated on his election as president of the Gore Association. Messrs D. Marshall and J. Milne were re-elected the association’s representatives on the Southland Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs Association. There were present Messrs J. Macdonald (chairman), G. Herron, A. M. Weir, A. Horne, R. S. Tait, E. K. Sim, J. S. Marshall, James Young, R. Kennedy, S. T. Evans, J. J. Blakie, Thomas Hamilton, W. Falconer, R. Swale, W. Clark, G. S. Young and A. Campbell.
