THE TENNIS CLUB The annual report of the Winton Tennis Club states that a successful year has been experienced. “It is with sincere regret that the deaths of the patron, the late Mr P. A. de la Perrelle, and a former member of the club, Mr John Dobbie, are recorded,” states the report.. “Mr Perrelle was at all times keenly interested in tennis, and Mr Dobbie was an active member of both the A grade and Central teams. “The membership of the club has been kept up throughout, and the receipts from this source, totalling £5l 5/-, show an increase on Lst season. The year began with a credit of £2O 4/-, and ended with a credit balance of £29 8/5, which, with the sum of £5
yet to come from the rent of the courts to the Basketball Association, must be considered highly satisfactory. “Good entries were received for the annual club championships, and special mention must be made of the success of Mr G. Lindsay, who won the men’s singles for the 15th time, To hold the title for 13 consecutive years must surely constitute something of a record. Mr L. G. de la Perrelle again was runnerup. The women’s champion was Miss Ella Sutherland, with Miss E. Pierce as runner-up. A combined doubles Yankee tournament was held, the winners being Mrs R. Martin and Mr F. Lindsay.”
