Health In The Home
(By a Family Doctor).
An extraordinarily common trouble in these days and one which seems to be growing more and more frequent is chronic ulceration of the stomach. Undoubtedly one of the chief factors in its production is irregularity in meal times and long ii tervals between meals. Moreover, there are certain individuals who are specially liable to develop the disease, such as tall and thin young people whose stomachs tend to empty themselves quickly. These same folk, instead of getting an actual ulcer frequently develop a tiresome set of symptoms which give a warning that if they are not careful an ulcer may later make its appearance. I saw such a patient yesterday. He had breakfast at 7.30 and did not get lunch till one o’clock. About midday he always got an unpleasant sore feeling in the stomach and had a sinking sensation. Lunch relieved it completely. Tlie trouble is entirely due to an empty stomach, and the certain cure is to make a habit of taking in the middle of the morning some food and drink such as a bun and a glass of milk.
