The thatched roof of the home of the Bishop of Portsmouth, Bishopswood, near Fareham, Hampshire, is being recovered by William Saunders, for 30 years a Norfolk reed thatcher, and two helpers. Mr Saunders’s family has followed the ancient craft of thatching without a break since the Middle Ages.
