Silver Brier Wins COURT ARMA’S SUCCESS IN HURDLES (United Press Association.) Wanganui, September 10. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting opened to-day in showery weather, but eventually the weather cleared and there was bright sunshine. The attendance was good. The going was a trifle holding. An inquiry was held after the Putiki Hack Handicap into interference with Cloudy Bay near the six furlong post and the rider of Orac (J. Winder) was suspended for one month, for careless riding, just after the start and also during the running of the race. T. Tito, the rider of War Ace in the Okehu Hurdles Handicap broke his collarbone when his mount fell at the last fence. W. Taylor, the rider of Midacre in the hurdles, was cautioned for coming across too soon at the first fence. The totalisator handled £9273 10/-, against £7043 10/-, an increase of £2230. Hunting Jay refused to line up, taking no part. Prince Reno and Lucidus fell at the first fence and War Ace fell at the last when about to take the lead from Court Arma and Royal King, leaving that pair to fight out the finish. Red Sand led to the straight, where Boomerang was almost on terms, but Silver Brier came through on the inner to win comfortably by a length and a half, with Boomerang three-quarters of a length ahead of Hunting Cat. Lavish, Dawning Light and Laughing Lass were the leaders into the straight, and in a great finish Dawning Light won by half a neck from Laughing Lass, who was a head in front of Impersonator with The Sandwichman a head away.
