DOCTOR CHARGED WITH MURDER
WOMAN’S DEATH AFTEit OPERATION. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 12.20 a.m.) Melbourne, Sept. 10. Two hours before the Coroner opened an inquiry to-day into the death of Mrs Kathleen Armstrong, aged 40, of Sale, her husband, Walter Armstrong, a railway employee, was found shot dead. He was to have been an important witness at the inquest. Dr Arthur MacArthur Lanphier, of Rosedale, 20 miles south of Sale, who was charged with the murder of Mrs Armstrong, was present in custody. His evidence disclosed that the woman died after an operation. Dr G. A. Hagenhauer, also of Sale, gave evidence that he was conducting a post mortem on the woman when he received an urgent message to attend Dr Lanphier’s surgery, where, he found the latter in a semi-conscious condition. Dr Hagenhauer added that he was told that Dr Lanphier had administered to himself a hypodermic injection. Dr Lanphier was committed for trial.
