VETERAN SWIMMER

MR HOLBEIN SWIMS THE THAMES. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.35 p.m.) London, August 6. Mr Montague Holbein, the famous swimmer, who is now 75 years of age, last evening swam the Thames from Richmond Lock to London Bridge, a distance of 18 miles, in hours. Mr Holbein has made many notable river swims. He made nine attempts to swim the English Channel, the last being on his 52nd birthday. He was nearest to success in 1902, when he gave up within 500 yards of Dover.
