INSTITUTE MOVEMENT MRS DEANS DOMINION PRESIDENT (United Press Association.) Dunedin, July 30. The Dominion conference of Women’s Institutes was continued to-day. ine main business was the election of he Dominion executive and consideratio of resolutions from various institutes. The election of Dominion president was held the two vice-chairwomen of last year, Miss A. Kane (Wellington) and Mrs W. Deans (Darfield) being nominated. Mrs Deans, who is also president of the North Canterbury Federation of Institutes, was elected. The election of members of the Dominion Executive Committee resulted in the following appointments: Mrs J. Ayson (Warepa, Otago), Mrs S. Chisnall (Woodbury, South Canterbury), Miss M. Grant (Palmerston North); Mrs L. Horn (Taradale, Hawkes Bay), Miss A. Kane (Wellington), Mrs A. C. McCorkindale (Feilding), Mrs G. A. M. Macdonald (Orari, South Canterbury), Miss M. Maddever (Wellington), Mrs C. Williams (Elsthorpe, Hawke’s Bay), Sister May Gardiner (Poverty Bay), Mrs F. M. Revell (Auckland), and Mrs H. Paterson (Pahiatua). The first discussion concerned the venue of the next general meeting, but no decision was arrived at. The following resolutions were passed:— Awahuri Institute.—That a biennial general meeting be held *in the miudle of July. Newlands Institute.—That the Dominion Executive Committee be empowered to select for the agenda of the annual conference only those resolutions of a general nature which in its opinion are of value to the organization, provided that all resolutions passed by the Federation Council meeting or supported by 10 or more institutes appear on the agenda. (The latter portion of this resolution is a rider forwarded by the North Wellington Federation and the Albany Institute). Tauranga Institute—That the Government be urged to establish a home in the North Island with recreational, educational and vocational facilities for backward and mentally deficient children. Patea Institute. —That children from two to 12 years be treated at clinics instead of from Primer 1 to Standard 4 as at present. Patea Institute.—That in view of the importance of milk as a food of the people the Women’s Institute members should endeavour to educate public opinion to demand milk that is clean and free from risk of contamination by tuberculosis germs, and to support authorities in seeing that it is supplied. Further, this meeting urges housewives to realize that clean milk can be made dirty by carelessness in homes.
