FRUIT INDUSTRY

GUARANTEED PRICE SOUGHT (United Press Association.) Wellington, July 30. A deputation from the Fruitgrowers’ Federation and the Control Board impressed on the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, to-day the difficulties of the industry and asked for a guarantee of 10/- a case for 1936 and a penny a pound above costs for 1937. Mr Nash said the Government would carry out its undertaking to the industry, but he could not go much beyond what he told the recent conference. He liked the co-operative principle, but did not think it quite fair that the growers’ fund should be kept intact while the Government’s money was distributed. When the 1936 accounts were ir. they could look at the position, and if the circumstances warranted it the Government would be glad to consider the position. The same applied to 1937.
