Otautau GARDEN CLUB
THE MONTHLY MEETING Mr W. J. Wesney presided at the monthly meeting of the Otautau Garden Club. Mr C, Barwell gave an address on “Native Shrubs,” and illustrated his lecture with a collection of from 50 to 100 varieties which he had secured from the bush. It was aiTanged that members should have a day in the bush and also go as a party to Eglinton Valley in the summer. Next month’s address will be delivered by Mr J. Sounness, of Bayswater, who will also deal with native shrubs, but more particularly with Alpine and mountain lilies. The best bloom competition resulted as follows: Mrs McFadjen (bowl of chrysanthemums) 1, Miss Gould (bowl of winter roses) and Mrs P. Sheridan (bowl of narcissi) 2 eq. SCHOOL FOOTBALL A meeting of teachers was held to finalize the school Rugby football competition for the Mills Shield. It was decided to hold a knock-out competition at Otautau on August 15, and the following draw was made: Nightcaps School v. Otautau School; Ohai School v. Riverton School. The winning teams will play each other and the loser will play the loser. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT The weekly euchre tournament in aid of the dental clinic funds attracted a good attendance. The winners were; Mr P. Spencer 1, Mr Redley 2. Mr Mackenzie won the consolation prize. There was an attendance of 20 at the progressive euchre tournament in aid of the funds of the Croquet Club. Miss Hay and Mr Smart were awarded the prize, after a play-off against Mrs White and Mr W. Sheedy.
