MR SEMPLE AND MR WEBB.

To the Editor.

Sir, —The speeches by Mr Semple and Mr Webb which you published are what the people of New Zealand want. The money power is by no means as Mr Semple puts it so naively and forcefully—God Almighty. It is great to hear that at last some political Ministers are not afraid to speak the truth as they see it and are not afraid of the Press and the money power. It is a pity that some religious ministers and doctors instead of trying to find out how little a man can live on did not have something to say against a system so obsolete and unworkable as that imposed by orthodox finance. The people of New Zealand are determined as was shown at the last Election to do away with that system. They demand a leisure state such as the conditions of a mechanical age warrant. The Labour Government has implemented the first step, that of creating the State’s own credit authority, and if by the time the next Election comes along they are not willing to do away with the old work bogey and implement a policy of national dividends together with a just price and a price discount we will find others who will. Most certainly the people of New Zealand are not going to put into power any body of men who advocate the degrading spectacle of trying to make human needs fit into an obsolete money system instead of making that money system serve the needs of the people of New Zealand. The country is very wealthy in goods and also in men who are willing to produce and distribute those goods. All that is needed is a money system to fit the needs of a mechanical age capable of producing almost unlimited goods with a minimum of human work. —Yours, etc., PROGRESSIVE.
