Orepuki PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE

STATE OF FOOTPATHS

At a meeting of the Orepuki Progressive League Mr J. Falika presided over the following members:—Messrs L. Cross (secretary), A. J. Bone, J. Brown, F. Popham, J. Hennesey and G. Davis.

A letter was received from the Main Highways Board asking the League to give reasons why the main highway running through the Orepuki township should be shifted from the west side of the railway to the east side.

A letter from the Otautau League requested the Orepuki League to support it in the completion of the Black-mount-Redcliffe section of the ClifdenManapouri road. It was decided to leave over the matter till further particulars were obtained. It was moved that the council’s attention be drawn to the state of the footpaths leading off the main street. DOMAIN BOARD Mr C. O. McKeown presided over a meeting of the Hirstfield Domain Board. Those present were:—Messrs G. B. Purdue (secretary), J. Brown, J. Falika and E. D. Bone. It was decided to purchase cinders from the Railway Department to put on the path leading into the recreation ground. P.W.M.U. At the annual meeting of the Orepuki branch of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union there was a good attendance of members. Mi’ Humble presided, and gave an interesting address on the mission fields. He also spoke of the increase in mission funds collected. The following members were reelected: —President, Mrs Humble; vicepresident, Mrs T. Brown; secretary, Mrs Noble; treasurer, Mrs Butler; Maori Mission Birthday League secretary, Miss McAllister; mission box secretary, Mrs H. Garden; corresponding secretary, Mrs Noble. BASKETBALL A friendly basketball match was played between the Orepuki school team and the Orepuki B grade team. The School team showed a good knowledge of the game for such young players, but the B grade team won by 14 goals to 8. RUGBY FOOTBALL The senior Rugby football match played at Orepuki between Orepuki and Riverton resulted in a win for Orepuki by 8 points to 6.
