Wyndham BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING Mr J. M. Wilson presided over a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Wyndham Bowling Club. The annual report stated that the club had had a successful year, there being 21 active members, three lire members and one honorary member. Club competition games had been keen and interesting, the results being as follow: Singles championship, H. Hunter; championship doubles. W. F. Bennetto and H. Hunter; handicap singles, H. Hunter. The report was adopted. The new rule adopted by the Southland Centre of charging an entry fee of 2/6 per player for champion of champions competitions in rinks, doubles and singles such charge to be borne by the club concerned was discussed. It was decided that members playing in such games should pay the entry fee. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year: President Mr T. Burstall; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Thompson and F. J. Bogue; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. H. Jones; auditor, Mr C. E. Davey; green committee, Messrs H. Hunter, E. J. Traynor and A. H. Jones; delegates to Eastern Southland Sub-Centre, Messrs H. Hunter and N. Stark; delegate to Southland Centre, Mr W. F. Bennetto; handicapper and selector, Mr N. Stark; committee: Messrs E. J. Traynor, H. Hunter. N. Stark, G. Kerse and W. F. Bennetto; competitions committee and umpires, Messrs H. Hunter, E. J. Tiaynor and G. Kerse; and Messrs A. A. Wilson, jun. find D. Macpherson. The delegates were instructed to support a four-rink competition, the playing of fixtures during the week of Gore and Southland shows, and the two-life system in the Eastern Southland championships. It was resolved that the selector should select the champion rinks. Subscriptions were fixed at £2 2/and £1 1/- for first year players. Donations of trophies were received from Messrs T. K. Clarke, M. Stark, T Burstall and H. Hunter. GOLF The Wyndham Golf Club’s July medal competition resulted in _ a draw between R. G. Hay-McKenzie, with a score of 77—7 —70, E. A. Pankhurst, 79—9—70, L. Harper, jun., 82— 12—70 and C. A. Shari, 83—13—70. A play-off will be held this week. Further results in the men’s knockout competition are: P. Burnett beat M. C. Rice; D. Crawford beat C. Rout; L. Harper sen., beat V. Milne. , Following is the draw for the Ladies’ Club’s L.G.U. and July medal competition to be played this week:— To-day: Misses P. Malcolm and L. Simpson; Miss C. Stevenson and Mrs P. Barnett; Misses M. Stevenson and L. Hallman.

Saturday: Mis E. J. Traynor and Miss B. McLauchlan; Mrs P. Barnett and Miss M. Campbell; Miss M. Baird and Mrs L. Harper; Misses F, Milne and V. Heaps; Mrs G. H. Smith and Miss L. Rice; Misses H. Baird and L. Wilson; Miss L. Richardson and Mrs A. Gibson; Mrs A. Wilson and Miss B. McLaren; Mesdames Malcolm and D. Crawford; Mrs Hull and Miss R. Crosbie; Mrs Jefferies a bye. The hostesses will be Mrs Jefferies and Miss V. Kerse.

Some good cards were returned in the last competition, Mrs G. Smith reducing her handicap from 29 to 27. The third and final round of the eclectic match for the president’s trophy resulted in a tie between Miss Patricia Malcolm, with 83 —14—69, and Mrs G. H. Smith, with 91—22—69. A round of 18 holes will be played to decide the winner. There is a further change in the ringer competition, the top players now being Miss L. Rice 66—41 —612, Miss P. Malcolm 71—91—611, Miss H. Baird, 75—7—68; Miss B. McLaren 85—15i—--691. BOXING CLUB At a meeting of the committee of the Wyndham Boxing Club, Mr P. Campbell presided. It was decided to hold a tournament in the Town Hall and the following officials were appointed: Seconds, Messrs J. A. Munro and W. Thompson; call steward, Mr J. Young; announcer, Mr D. Macpherson; medical inspector, Dr J. H. Baird; ring-setting steward, Mr W. Crighton; doorkeepers, Messrs H. McKerrow and F. Milne; masseurs, Messrs W. Crighton, L. Kennedy and Crowe. MIMIHAU BIBLE CLASS The Mimihau Presbyterian Bible Class held a successful social in the Mimihau Hall. Games were played. Mr A. Arnott was in charge of the programme and Misses A. Frame and M. Hunter played pianoforte accompaniments. The visitors were welcomed by Mr J. Smith, Mr A. G. Davidson replying, and the social concluded with family worship conducted by the Rev. G. D. Falconer.
