FORTY-HOUR WEEK SOUGHT

WELLINGTON PLASTERERS. (United Press Association.) Wellington, June 15. The Wellington plasterers dispute was before the Conciliation Council today. The employers sought a 44 hour week and the employees a 40-hour week, with no Saturday work. The employers offered 2/1 an hour and the workers sought 3/2, or £6 6/8 weekly. A representative of the tilers and slab tilers protested against a clause in the workers’ proposals classifying slab tiling and wall and floor tiling as plasterers’ work. He said that this would mean the tiling trade was becoming obsolete. There were enough tilers in Wellington to form their own union. It was decided to keep the matter in view when the clause was discussed.
