MAJOR A. 11. BATHURST. LORD BLEDISLOE’S BROTHER. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) London, June 13. The death is announced of Major Arthur Henry Bathurst, Lord Bledisloe’s brother and his military secretary in New Zealand. DR M. R. JAMES. PROVOST OF ETON. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, June 12. The death occurred this afternoon of Dr M. R. James, Provost of Eton and a former Provost of Kings College, Cambridge. Dr James, who was 73, died after a severe heart attack yesterday. Dr James was Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge from 1913 to 1915. A scholar in the more recondite branches of archaeology, whose learned works on ancient and medieval manuscripts appealed to specialists, Dr James also acquired popular fame as a writer of ghost stories. He received the Order of Merit in 1930. SIR JOHN BOWNER. VICTORIAN POLITICIAN. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Melbourne, June 31. The death is announced of Sir John Bowner, politician, journalist, and agriculturist. He was in the Victorian Legislative Assembly for an unbroken period of 35 years. He was Speaker for three years, and for a brief period was Premier. MR RICHARD WATKINS. VETERAN RETURNED SOLDIER. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, June 13. The death has occurred of Mr Richard Watkins, aged 81. He saw active service during the Great War and it was claimed he was the oldest member of the A.I.F. He enlisted in 1915 at the age of 61, and his statement that he was 44 was never questioned.
