SOUTHLAND FORECAST. (Special to The Times.) Wellington, June 14. Following is the Dominion Observatory’s special weather forecast for Southland:— Moderate to strong west to northwest winds backing to southerlies on Monday and increasing to gale force in places. Weather unsettled with some rain and on the ranges snow. A cold change later with hail in places. Seas moderate to rather rough and later rising. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather changeable but mainly cloudy to overcast with intermittent rain and mist or fog at places. A cold change spreading from the south to-morrow with some hail and on the high levels snow. General Situation.—A depression of moderate intensity is crossing New Zealand to-day and another is following it rather closely across the Tasman Sea. An anti-cyclone of considerable intensity covers Australia. Winds.—Northerlies at first over the eastern portions of the North Island, but otherwise west to south-west prevailing. Later winds again tending northerly, force moderate to strong. A second change to southerlies of strong to gale force in the far north tomorrow. ' Seas, New Zealand waters.—Rather rough on the west coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate Eastern Tasman Sea.—Moderate to fresh south-west to north-west winds, backing later to strong southerlies. Seas moderate but becoming rough to-morrow. The weather in Invercargill over the week-end was, for the most part, fine. On Saturday it was dull and threatening, but no ram fell until late in the evening; yesterday it was fine and mild for the middle of June. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine and calm.
