APPEAL UPHELD

Stirling Lady Case (United Press Association.) Dunedin, June 13. The decision of the Appeal Judges appointed by the New Zealand Trotting Conference to hear the appeal of Mrs M. Clark, of Winton, owner of the pacer Stirling Lady, against the decision of the New Zealand Trotting Association in dismissing her appeal from the decision of the Wyndham Trotting Club is now announced. The judges, Messrs B. S. Irwin, A. C. Hanlon and J. S. Sinclair upheld the appeal and ordered the return of the deposits made by the appellant for appeal and referred the question of costs to the Trotting Conference. Their conclusion was that the proceedings, which purported to be an inquiry by the stewards of the Club, consequent upon the objection made by the stipendiary steward, were irregular and ultra vires. Quite apart from this conclusion, the judges state that the appellant could succeed on other grounds. The facts are.—ln the concluding ’race at the Wyndham meeting Stirling Lady beat Pot Luck but the judge’s placings were reversed by the Judical Committee on the ground that Stirling Lady bored in over the final stages. The Club’s decision was upheld by the Trotting Association whereupon the present proceedings were taken. WANGANUI MEETING COTSFIELD PENALIZED. (United Press Association.) A practice match was fired at Otatara on Saturday afternoon and thirteen members of the Invercargill Defence Rifle Club took part. It was intended to fire a teams’ match, east of Elies Road against the rest, but on account of the failing light two members of the east team were unable to finish. Seven shots each were fired at 300, 500 and 600 yards. The conditions were fair with a dull light which failed badly at the long range and a light north-east wind, which was fairly steady. Some fine marksmanship was shown by some of the members at 300 and 500 yards, but at the long range the visibility was so bad that no one scored over 30, which was a good score under the conditions. At 300 yards W. Milley and W. Henderson had the best 34’s as follows: 4555555. A. Ford also made 34, but had his inners with the last shot. At 500 yards A. Ford and A. R. Wills both made the possible, seven bullseyes each. W. A. Diack also shot well at this range for 34, made as’follows: 5455555. The latest young recruit, D. Collie, shaped well, making 31 at 300 and 30 at 500 yards. He failed to get a shoot at the long range. The best aggregates were: A. Ford 99 —ex 105, A. R. Wills 98, W. Flenderson 95.
