LABOUR PARTY
INVERCARGILL BRANCH.
The monthly meeting of the Invercargill branch of the Labour Party was held in the Trades Hall, Esk street. Mr R. P. Meek presided over a large attendance of members.' The recently appointed organizing committee under Mr Whitty reported gratifying results and bright prospects. Forty-three new members were accepted into the party at the meeting It was stated that arrangements were in hand for prominent Labour members of Parliament to address the Invercargill electors during the Parliamentary recess. To enable the branch to obtain the active services of Mr Gavin Muir, a past president, who had recently returned to Invercargill, Mr P. Marchant resigned from the executive committee and Mr Muir was unanimously elected in his stead. It was stated that Mr Marchant had been a most enthusiastic worker on behalf of Labour for many years and although relinquishing executive office would continue actively to support the party. During the evening the opportunity was taken to congratulate the branch secretary, Mr A. Imbs, on his recent marriage, and the president, in wishing him and Mrs Imbs happiness, on behalf of the branch handed him a present. At the conclusion of the business Mr G. Tisbury, of the Waikiwi branch, gave a short but interesting address on the aims and objects of the Labour Party.
