WHIPPET RACING ACTIVITIES AT WINTON. In view of this week’s fixture of the Winton Whippet Racing Club there has been much activity on the Winton tracks during the week. The large increase in owners at Winton has resulted in several well-bred pups being schooled and older dogs purchased. The entries for Saturday's meeting, which were published during the week, are very good. Comedy King has been a disappointment since being purchased at a good price, but he has shown promising form, and will be a strong contender in the maiden hurdles event on Saturday. As a youngster he displayed great promise, but has not lived up to it. The Slow Tom—Havacomet pups have all grown a great deal, and have been responsible for some good tussles in training work. Tom Walls is probably the* most consistent of the litter. Minstrel Lad has been working well and it was a good effort on his part during the week-end when he defeated Tom Walls. Fifty-fifty has again shown a return to her best form, and is fancied at this week’s fixture. Clarion Call is the name claimed for a bitch of the same litter, and although she has not had much experience on the tracks, she is a speedy customer. Slowcoach has grown a good deal of late and done most of his work on his own. Beadinwell was purchased last week by M. Brumby and gave an excellent display over the hurdles during the week-end. Warhaven is in excellent shape, and his schooling tasks have been a feature of the training work. He has been unlucky in several of his races and a success on Saturday would be well received. The Slow Tom—Moon pups from J. Clark’s kennels have done a good deal of work. Shanghai Lil and Rastus Jones are the most forward of the quartet, and if they continue as they have been doing they should develop into good winners. Rob Roy, another of the same litter, is a big overgrown pup and is being given time to develop. Linton Lad galloped well during the week to dead heat with Warhaven. Linton Lad has few superiors at his best. Desert Gold is in great heart after scoring in the Juvenile Handicap last week at Steeton Park. She has size and as she has not been over-raced she should develop into a high class winner. Little has been seen of Ta Boy and Blazing Light on the tracks, but both are credited with having done plenty of work. Recent registrations include the following: King Midas (Warhaven—Lady Barkly), War Lady (Warhaven—Lady Barkly), Spinning Queen (Warhaven— Lady Barkly), Clarion Call (Slow Tom —Havacomet), and Bulldog Drummond (Ta Boy—Lady Barkly). Lady Barkly, after rearing a litter of pups by Ta Boy, has again been put into commission and has done a good deal of schooling. Slow Tom is carrying plenty of condition, but is in good order and will be given a run in the hurdle events at this week’s meeting. The Warhaven— Lady Barkly puppies have put in an appearance at the tracks and did light work, as also did the Ta Boy—Country Queen youngsters. Colleen Ougue has shown improved form in her recent efforts, while Tea Party (by Havadrop) has been shaping well. Gay Song appears to be on the big side, but did quite well in schooling over six hurdles during the week.
