NO REPLY FROM HITLER
British Questions EFFECT OF FRENCH STRIKES (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, June 11. A message from Berlin states that Herr Hitler regards the French strikes as the fulfilment of his prophecy that Bolshevism has spread to France and his aversion to the Soviet extending to France, even to Western democracy as a whole, is increasing his reluctance to reply to the British questionnaire. A British Official Wireless message states that the inquiries addressed to Herr Hitler by the British Government to clarify the former’s proposals for the negotiation of peace on a new footing were mentioned at question time in the House of Commons. The Foreign Secretary (Mr R. A Eden) said that no reply had yet been received to the communication made by the British Ambassador to Berlin (Sir Eric Phipps) on May 6. “On May 23 the British Ambassador was instructed to remind the German Government of the desire of his Majesty’s Government to receive its reply,” added Mr Eden. “Sir Eric was further asked to emphasize that Britain was anxious to elucidate as soon as possible points which were not clear to her in the German memoranda of March 7, 24, and 31, and that the purpose of his Majesty’s Government was to ensure that negotiations should be opened for the conclusion of Western and Eastern European security and the return of Germany to the League. “In reply Germany said to Sir Eric Phipps on May 26 that no reply would be made . until after the formation of the new French Government.”
