THE HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING MEDICAL REPORTS The monthly meeting of the Southland Hospital Board was held yesterday. Mr T. Golden (chairman) presided over Dr J. A. Pottinger, Messrs W. Clark, J. S. A. McDougall, J. W. Miller, J. Miller, A. T. Newman, W. Norman and F. Trapski, Miss H. L. Birss and Mrs A. Henderson.

“The Public Works Department has been surveying a route for a new road across the Frankton Flat, in view of the increased traffic down the Kingston Road,” Dr W. A. Anderson, medical superintendent at the Lake County Hospital, stated in the course of his monthly report. “One of the proposed new routes goes right through two sections held by the Hospital Board on the other side of the road to the hospital. These sections may be needed for hospital or other purposes in the future, so that if they are taken the board should at least be granted some compensation. I agree with the purpose of the new road, that it will obviate the stream of traffic passing the hospital gate, which besides being noisy for the patients would also be dangerous.” It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of Mr J. W. Miller, the representative for that hospital district.

The medical superintendent at the Southland Hospital, Dr L. C. McNickle, submitted the following report for the month of April:—On March 31, 115 patients remained in the hospital; 161 were admitted and 160 patients were discharged during the month of April; 7 patients died during the month; on April 30, 109 patients remained in the hospital. The total number of patients treated was 276. The collective days’ stay totalled 2998 and the individual daysstay averaged 18.62. The average number of patients per day was 99.93. Fifty-three male and., 19 female patients remained in Lome Infirmary on April 1, stated Matron C. M. Fitzgibbon in the course of her monthly report. Two patients (both males) were admitted during April, bringing the total under treatment to 74—of whom 55 were males and 19 females. One patient was discharged during April. The following donations to the Southland Hospital for the month of April were acknowledged by Matron J. Ross: —Red Cross Society, fruit; First Church Rangers, flowers; Otatara W.D.F.U., books; Mesdames Lennie (West Plains), flowers; Lindsay (Wallacetown), flowers; Corkill, flowers; Clark (Woodlands), flowers.
